Val Venegia
Val Venegia, the beating heart of the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Nature Park, is a pristine valley closed to traffic, with two convenient access points and large parking areas—one at Passo Rolle (with a route leading to Baita Segantini) and the other at Pian dei Casoni, on the provincial road to Passo Valles. These access points are also reachable by bus (within easy reach from Hotel Panorama) and by the park’s shuttle service, allowing for a pleasant car-free loop tour.
This valley is a favored grazing spot for cows during the summer months, where they feed on a variety of mountain herbs and flowers that give their milk a unique flavor.
This milk is used to produce exceptional dairy products, such as the famed Botìro di Primiero (butter) made at the malga dairies. You can savor this delicious butter at two traditional mountain huts: Malga Venegia and Malga Venegiota.
A well-maintained dirt road runs through the valley, making it ideal even for trekking strollers. The lush green pastures are uplifting, the gentle babble of the Travignolo stream enchants, and the surrounding forests, which stretch to the base of rocky screes, lead the eye up to the most iconic peaks of the Pale di San Martino: Cimon della Pala with its small glacier, Vezzana, the highest peak in the group at over 3,000 meters, and Mulaz, at the foot of which lies the Rifugio Mulaz.
Val Venegia invites every visitor to leave behind the noise and stress of daily life and immerse themselves in a rejuvenating experience that touches both heart and soul, all while respecting the precious Dolomitic ecosystem.
